An Old Barn Converted • Modern New Build

The Old Sawmill

This was a great example of architects, builders and clients working together to create an ultra modern, highly efficient, luxury home.  We took this once old barn and converted it into what is now a stunning new home with a lot of character.  The barn was once an old sawmill and joiners workshop so it was decided during the course of this build to retain some of the original charm and charcter. In the end, the house was named "The Old Sawmill".

From Planning to Completion

The planning department had a lot of restrictions on what was allowed to be built and insisted that the old barn must not be knocked down. Instead we utilised the exisitng footprint and kept the traditional feel with old stone walls, slated roof and lots of small windows. After many meetings, we managed to overcome obstacles and create a building that satisfied both the local authorities and client.

Internal Design

Internally the house is ultra modern with the many timber features supplied by the wonderfully artistic "Paul Hodgkiss Designs" to keep to "The Old Sawmill" theme as seen in the pictures opposite.

As you walk in the front door you are met with an extraordinary solid oak staircase and glass ballustrading thatlead you into the three generous sized bedrooms and bathrooms, each with their own features.

On the ground floor there is one main family area comprising of an open plan kitchen, dining and family room with ten windows and a set of french doors leading to the garden. There is also a utility room and downstairs shower room. The ground floor was seperated into a split level because the property is built on a hill. We decided to split the floor levels to give access to the cinema room which was completed by a specialist company that handled all the multi media systems in the house.

Garden Design

To add to the elegance and standards set inside the house, we designed an equally stunning garden complete with hot tub, sunken firepit, outside lighting and patio access perfect for summer BBQ's.
